December 2012 Lou's View Archives

Lou's View Monday 12/31 2:42PM I will do playoff rankings for the site. I'll post them on Friday...

Dirk Koetter is getting some looks already as a head coaching candidate. This would be good news for the spot he lands but it would also open up the Falcons OC job and that has a chance to be filled with Mike Mularky if he's cut loose. That would be bad...Koetter in Kansas City would be awesome news for Jamaal Charles...

Ken Wisenhunt fired by the Cardinals. Absurd! Seriously, this is flat out bad business. The guy has been an excellent head coach the whole way through in Arizona. They will need to hit a grand slam to replace him and I don't think they do it. Nothing less than Jon Gruden would get it done, and I don't think that's happening....One "Lou's View" twist, wouldn't it make sense for the Cards to go hard after Andy Reid since his old QB would be waiting there to prove him right? Kevin Kolb would get his old offense back. Again, I'm no Reid fan though...(see below)

It looks like the Coaching Tree 2013 will have a lot of new/updated information on it. NFL owners never fail to provide new material for the coaching tree...

Andy Reid is out in Philly and I may be the only one to say/write it but if I were another owner I would be in no hurry to make Reid my head coach. He's a prime guy to fall flat in his next head coaching job. He's set in his ways and his ways have proven just good enough to be good...

The Bills fired Chan Gailey and to me this is a BIG mistake, that team isn't very good on the defensive side of the ball and that's where they put all their money in the off season. This one is bad news from an FF perspective...

One bit od speculation, and it's all mine. Wouldn't Cam Cameron be a PERFECT fit in Oakland for Darren McFadden and Carson Palmer? He would bring a power running game and just enough throwing to keep the pressure off Palmer as an every down thrower...

Norv Turner is out in SD, should have been done last year but he got a second chance. How about a Cowboys reunion for Norv?...Jason Garrett needs a QB/Offensive coordinator. JMHO...

Lovie Smith is out in Chicago, he's one that confuses me. He's competitive like Andy Reid but he's also just good enough to be good enough. But I think he's a very good head coach and if I were a GM somewhere he would be on my list. The one thing I wouldn't let him do is hire an offensive coordinator. He couldn't manage to get that right....Ron Turner was the right kind of OC for Chicago from the start and he canned him....

Pat Shurmur was fired by the Browns as head coach. Eric Mangini was the perfect Browns/AFC North Coach and they canned him. The Browns never get this right for some reason...Shurmur was a very good OC for the Rams, I would love to see him hit a place like Arizona to help Kevin Kolb along...(if Kolb stays there)....

Sunday-game day! Lou's View 12:45pm

good luck today!

montell Owens is out for the jags. He hurt his knee warming up today.

anquan Boldin will not play for the ravens. I'm avoiding all players in that game...

There is a report that Ray Rice will not play for the Ravens today and Bernard Pierce will be the main RB. It's a good matchup to use him...

Lou's View 12/29 1:00 PM Joe the Tech Guy will post the final ranks in a few minutes!

Pierre Thomas is on IR so Mark Ingram is now a quality low end RB this week....

Vernon Davis isn't going to play for the 49ers this week, I like Colin Kapernick to run around a little more in this game...

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Report 12/29 10:10a

The Final Week 17 Injury Report is posted under the In Season-Staurday tab. Check it out and go set your winning lineups. Happy New Year to all. See you soon.

Lou's View Friday 12/28 1:15PM- Just a reminder there will be only final rankings this week posted on Saturday. Lot's of crazy player news...see below...

So sorry for the slow start....catching up after the travel of the week....

Mike Wallace won't play for the Steelers this week, I like Antonio Brown plenty in this game and Emmanual Sanders as well. The other guy I think can have a good game is Rashard Mendenhall. He's an option if you are digging deep for an RB...

The Browns, Raiders and Cardinals all will have a listing at QB of "Mystery QB" on the BFD rankings. I'm joking with it a little but it really is unbelievable that Thad Lewis and Bryan Hoyer will get starts this week and Tim Tebow won't....and I don't know who exactly is the Raiders QB, it could still be Palmer. But I'm not 100% on that...

No Trent Richardson for the Browns this week, Montario Hardesty is a decent start himself but I suspect the Steelers D' will be very good to finish the season...

Mike Vick throws the man who saved him, Andy Reid under the bus. What a guy Mike Vick is...he says the change in the offensive line schemes have made him a worse QB. Howard Mudd who is a legend of a coach wasn't good enough for Mike Vick who is not a legend of a QB...

The NY Daily News says Rex Ryan would stay on if the Jets improve their offense. This must be someone's idea of a joke, because Ryan should have zero say in anything that goes on with the Jets coaches/players. He's managed to coach them into oblivion. Here's what I would LOVE to see. Mike Pettine the defensive coordinator gets the head job and brings in Norv Turner or Cam Cameron to run the offense. Big bump up with that scenario....

Lou's View 12:08 pm Thursday 12/27

Ill post the player/game reviews later this evening and I'm pushing the rankings to Saturday to replace the start and sit. It's a bit of an odd week timing wise but also there are some teams like the colts and falcons with nothing to play for. I'd also like to have all the player news. Next season the rankings will be released on Saturdays too...

Mark Sanchez will start for the Jets. That would fall under the "big deal" category of news...Tim Tebow even after having a good discussion last week with Rex Ryan gets passed over again. It makes no sense, how much worse could Tebow (who won a playoff game last year) be than Sanchez? Not much....

It sounds like Montario Hardesty will get a chance to play a lot this week. Trent Richardson isn't practicing on Thursday. I like Hardesty and the Browns will have a nice backfield for whomever the new head coach is in 2013...

Jabari Greer won't play for the Saints this week. This is the week to get Steve Smith in the lineup, that game has a nice over/under number and I suspect it will feature little in the way of defense. A real Arena League game breaking out in the NFL....

Jordy Nelson does have a chance to play this week. I'm more concerned with Randall Cobb who may be getting a week off because of his ankle and knee issue

Lou's View 11:01AM The Free Agent List will be posted tonight. I am also recording a BFD Show at 11:30am because I will be traveling for about 10 hours starting at 1PM

One Lou's View before I have to go today...I'm not sold on Arian Foster being back this week. That was a pretty important game left last week. Ill keep following but it smells funny to me....

Chris Kuhlmann Injury Break 12/26 10:30a

The Early Week 17 Injury Report is posted under the In Season, Wednesday tab for those of you in total points leagues. Good luck.

Lou's View Sunday Game day! 11:45AM

DeAngelo Williams gets the gig again in Carolina, Jonathan Stewart is inactive today. I would roll with DeAngelo for sure...

See below for the BFD Challenge Leaderboard. Good luck to everyone!

Tim Tebow is inactive for the Jets. To me, the only person that SHOULD be back with the Jets in 2013 is Tebow. Sporano, Ryan and the GM should be somewhere else. This was possibly the worst display of running a team since the Lions went 0-16....

Congrats if you own Roddy White and or Calvin Johnson, you should be rolling to a win. For me? I own Johnson and Matthews Stafford in my big league and I am wondering how the hell you throw for 430 yards and ZERO TD's...actually I know the answer, you are not thinking and throw the ball to everyone BUT Calvin Johnson when you get inside the 10 yard line. WTH??? I should have a 25 point lead, instead it's just 16 points....

Ryan Grant will start for the Packers and I actually think he's a decent play. Believe it or not I'm conflicted as to using him over David Wilson or Ahmad Bradshaw because so far there's been no word as the the recovery/health of Ahmad....

Torrey Smith will play for the Ravens and I really like him today, he's got a great matchup and an opponnent that can keep up to the Ravens making them throw all game long..

Lou's View Saturday 12/22 3:45 PM The Final Ranks and Start & Sit is posted. Joe and I couldn't get on the back end of BFD for some reason...

Pinned: There will be no Free Agents Monday, updates on Tuesday or Top 150 next week. Both Joe and I will be out traveling. Also, the rankings will be posted Friday only. I won't do early ranks because some teams may have clinched and a number of players will be changing...I will post Free Agents on Wednesday with Game Reviews...

Good luck in your Championship Games this weekend!

There haven't been any updates regarding Ahmad Bradshaw, not sure what it means other than follow tomorrow afternoon to hear of any updates. I'll post on Lou's View....

If in fact Cortland Finnegan is out for the Rams you simply have to LOVE Vincent Jackson who may be having the best Free Agent WR season ever...

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Report 12/22 8:25a

Really pissed the world did not end, now I have to go buy a ton of last minute presents. The Final Week 16 Injury Report is posted under the In Season-Saturday Tab. Go check it out to assist you in setting your winning lineups. Merry Christmas to all and good luck in Championship Weekend. The only thing better than winning in leagues for me is helping others win; helps build up good Karma. Peace.

Lou's View Friday 12/21 3:15PM (The end of the world? I've been through this I think 20 times. I'm guessing I write something tomorrow...LOL)...

Sorry all I can't get onto the backed of bfd for some reason so I'm posting via my I phone. Ahmad Bradsahaw did practice today but no word about have much. I am leaving him off the rankings for now. If he is a go I would put him right where I have Wilson. Ill start Ahmad if he is in the lineup...

The Daily News reports David Wilson made a couple of mistakes in his pass protection last week so Kregg Lumpkin was on the field. I would say this, if it were a couple of mistakes that's great because there were more at the beginning of the season. Secondly, how did sitting Wilson work out last week? Not so good. If he's the starter, then he's in my lineup...

Lou's View Thursday 12/20 8:59 PM The Strategy Session is posted...If you're looking for Free Agents you can use the Tuesday listings. I went through them and there are no FA's to update this week. We really (very sadly) are at the end of the season and my waiver wires are devoid of anything worthy other than what I listed. I wouldn't start Greg McElroy...

There's a chance the Packers really do need to start Ryan Grant this week or use DuJuan Harris. And this is supposed to be a Super Bowl worthy team? Don't think so, and I don't think it matters who is at RB. It's all about Aaron Rodgers...

The Raiders will give Terrell Pryor an increased role this week and possibly next week. That makes the Panthers defense a nice play this week...(again, no need to update the FA list, they were on it last week!)....

Torrey Smith was at practice, I would make sure he doesn't have a setback and if he's a go, then I go with him...

Ahmad Bradshaw didn't practice. I know Tom Coughlin said he doesn't need practice to play but here's the thing. Bradshaw will have sat all of last week, all of this week and then come in and play the biggest game of the season cold? I don't think that happens unless he practices some on Friday. It's a 4PM game, so make your roster fit that and leave some flexability to move Bradshaw in/out based on the news. I still doubt he goes, David Wilson was not the problem last week...

The Strategy Session is now posted, just click the Thursday link. I'm looking at the Free Agents now and really, there isn't much to update. I may add some comments but all in all the WW is either thin or I already gave up the info on guys...interesting week...

One comment/question I had and I may have written this last week was "would I name some teams that may rest players, and how will replacements do". I don't think that happens this season. Any slip by the teams at the top and they could be the #2 seed fast, or lose a first round bye. I think teams are playing this thing out...

Kind of quite for any news, just more gibberish about the Jets and their QB situation. Really, the Jets are headed for a black hole of football obscurity. There's nothing on the roster to "hook" onto and say "this is a great strength of the team". Maybe the defensive backfield, which at this point in the NFL is about the least important area to be strong in, all the rules are set up for offense...

Did you know? Adrian Peterson has produced more total yards over the last 3 games than Christian Ponder has thrown for...that's unreal...

Ho can Calvin Johnson have 1600 yards receiving and 5 touchdowns? That is a failure by both the QB and the offensive coordinator. No other way to put it. Look at it this way, with 1600 yards it means Calvin has been up and down a 100 yard football field 16 times this season. Logic (not reality of course, but for illustrative purposes) logic would say Calvin should have 16 TDs. Obviously he wouldn't but he should have 10 for crying out loud...

Andre Johnson having the best year of his career and I bet a lot of his FF owners are sitting and wondering why they didn't make the championship games or even the playoffs. I can tell you why, because for about 8 weeks Andre was the most underulilized player in all of the FF hobby...now they have used him and he's rolling...

Just for comparison, Randall Cobb with 7 TDs and all of 800 yards receiving...it's about the QB and the OC making sure the player that should get the targets in the red zone do get the targets...

Lou's View Wednesday 12/19 2:12 PM Don't forget, the BFDFANTASYfootball Show at 10PM EST...

LeSean McCoy back on the field and getting the start for the Eagles this weekend. He is going to be in my lineup where I own him. Andy Reid says he will monitor McCoy but haven't we heard that from Andy in the past?...

Sounds and looks like RGIII will be under center for the Redskins and with that Pierre Garcon becomes more of an option to me and RGIII would be right back in the lineup...

Brady Quinn will start for the Chiefs this week. Good news for the Colts D'...

Torrey Smith didn't practice today, he is shaky IMO to play this week coming off the concusion...I like Boldin but would have LOVED Smith against the Giants...

No practice for Ahmad Bradshaw today, and to me he's really shaky to play this week. I know how tough the guy is but with a knee you've got to be conservative and after watching David Wilson last week, the running game was hardly an issue for the Giants...Week #17 is a HUGE game for NY and I think he rests one more week to get to as close to 100% as possible...

Daniel Thomas on the IR so Lamar Miller with a little value this weekend. Not a whole lot, but some. I wish the coaches would give the kid the full workload but they will roll with Reggie Bush in a very nice matchup...

So Ryan Mathews is expected to be ok for training camp. How (and since there will be a new head coach) WHO could trust Ryan Mathews as their starting RB in 2013? No one. He can't stay on the field and that's a HUGE part of an NFL teams off season preparation. Reliablility. The Chargers would be a great spot for Reggie Bush to end up (plus the irony of the Saints having Sproles and the Chargers having Bush would be fun)...anyway...Reggie could be the 1A back to Mathews and just take over when Ryan is on the shelf and vise versa...

Tim Tebow will request to be traded/released. Since he is sitting on SO much leverage with the Jets I could see why they would do it...seriously. Tebow has no leverage and the Jets, specifically the head coach have no idea how to use the guy. I'll never understand why they were the team to bite on the trade, and as I mentioned before they paid somewhere in the $5M range to bring the guy to NY, not use him and not market him. So it's not like jersey sales paid for him...

I'm surprised to see Malcolm Floyd hit the IR and disappointed overall in his season. Danario Alexander came in and stole the show and all but there were chances for Malcolm to be really good because Antonio Gates is on fumes. It didn't happen...btw, why not Tim Tebow to San Diego? He would have the best arm on the team...

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Break 12/18 8:25a

The Early Week 16 Injury Report is posted under the In Season-Wednesday tab. Check it out to prep for championship weekend.

Lou's View Tuesday 12/18 3:45 PM

I would love to be excited about Matt Forte's value for the championship games but his efforts at the goal line last week were pathetic. Michael Bush has been placed on IR so it looks like Forte will continue to get the chances...

Greg McElroy will replace Mark Sanchez at QB for the Jets this weekend. The best thing about this news it ESPN keeps replaying the "butt fumble" when Sanchez fumbled running into the a#$ of his offensive lineman. Which BTW in 50 years, they will still be playing as one of the all time best NFL Follies...

I hope you caught the XM Spot, in studio and an extended time. Good stuff and my thanks to RotoExperts for having me...

The Jets are considering a QB change. Begs the question of why? The head coach being stubborn cost his team a chance at the playoffs. No reason to take the job from Sanchez now, the damage has already been done...

AJ Green and Andy Dalton catch a huge break. Ike Taylor will not play for the Steelers this week..

Don't forget to listen to Sirius/XM this morning at 9:30AM EST. I'll be on the Fantasy Sports Channel with RotoExperts...

If, and it's only an If Richard Sherman is suspended on Friday the Seahawks defensive backfield becomes an easy target. I benched Stevie Johnson in a league last week because I thought there was no way he has a good game against Sherman. That was incorrect for sure. This week Michael Crabtree who hogs the targets for the 49ers at WR would get a HUGE boost (and a spot in my lineup) should Sherman be out. I won't play Crabtree this week if Sherman is on the field, he will play much better after that display in Toronto...

Watching the "football" game last night with the Jets and Titans all I could think is this. These two teams are going nowhere and they are getting there soon...Tennessee fired a VERY good offensive mind and more importantly a VERY good QB coach in Chris Palmer. So Jake Locker looks and plays like a rudderless ship. Palmer was hired to bring the offense along and he was, with no offensive line help really. Locker looks lost, a lot like his counterpart Mark Sanchez. Tennessee has an overpriced RB they will likely cut in the off season and a WR who's head is just not on the same planet as the rest of us. The defense is a sieve and the head coach is a still a major question mark...awful...

Now for the Jets...full disclosure, I used to be a season ticket holder in the Rich Kotite/Bill Parcells days but I was never a big fan of the team. I am a football fan who liked to go to games...Anyway the Jets. I will say again, and I know I'm on an island here. Mark Sanchez can win a Super Bowl, he's talented and he's proved that. He's no Eli Manning, he's not even Joe Flacco but he is a good QB who has made plays and can again. The issues are the offensive line is decent at best, the offensive system is awful and the coordinator did nothing to be a coordinator coming off a horrible overall career as the Fins' head coach. Tony Sporano did an awful job of bringing Chad Henne along, a Bill Parcells hand picked QB. The Jets have NO quality WRs on their roster. Most damning IMO is the lack of a quality QB and WR coach to bring these players along, they don't get better in games. They like every other athlete get better in practice and film rooms. The structure isn't in place in NY for the Jets offense to be successful. Onto the defense...don't tell me this is a good defense. Good D's don't get burned for long TDs by a 4th string Jags RB and then a 94 yard TD by an RB playing behind a weak offensive line. Doesn't happen...

Those may be the two longest Lou's View's I've ever written. But I was inspired by the awful on TV last night called an NFL game...

Craig Stevens, you let me down brother...

Lou's View Monday 12/17 7:35 PM The Free Agents will be posted tonight...

Not much to mention about tonights game. I do think the RBs all have a tough matchup and don't really like them much...Stephen Hill and Damian Williams are out and so is Dustin Keller...

Craig Stevens, watch for him tonight against the Jets and don't be shocked by a TD and a good number of catches. He should have been the starter all along for the Titans...the Jets give up nice numbers to the TE position...

My bad, I didn't write anything about Ryan (insert adjective here) Mathews who broke is other collar bone. What should I write? I put the guy in one lineup because he was so unique to my team expecting a huge day and he got hurt again. I'm not one to predict injuries, I think it's luck when someone gets that right. However, I would be one to plan accordingly and next year assuming he is the main RB for the Chargers I'll draft him and take a very good other RB to back him up/replace him with. Remember the "hurt guy" discussion below?...

Ahmad Bradshaw says he is playing in week #16. I don't know if I buy it but he is one tough SOB so anything is possible. David Wilson wasn't the problem this week, the complete no show by Eli and the defense were the issues. I would be glad to start Wilson against the Ravens weak defense...

I've gotten a few "what happened to Danario" e-mails. Nothing happened, Rivers was awful...

Brandon Lloyd takes full advantage of the attention Wes Welker gets. Nice game, I hope someone started him, I didn't where I own him...

Honestly? If you asked who is the best team in football, could anyone give a really good and really acurate answer? Everyone at some point has gotten their (butts) kicked or done the kicking....

In my one big league I have going (got the win, thanls to those who've asked)...I sat on Saturday and looked at the available kickers on a first come first serve basis for waivers. I nearly clicked "drop Conner Barth and pick up Blair Walsh", but I didn't. Luckily, and it is sometimes about luck...I took the zero from Barth and my opponent got a zero from Danario Alexander...whew...like I said, sometimes lucky...better than good...

Beanie Wells with the fluke game of the year. If someday the Cards would get an offensive line and a QB, they would be able to run the ball well. Beanie is good...

I wasn't right about Dez Brynat being a decoy (sorry). I was right about Roddy White being a decoy, just not WHY he would be one. They didn't need the guy at all...

Officially, it's over for Vernon Davis as a sleeper, player for FF or anything else. His team put up 41 points and he had one target for a TD. There's nothing going on here and it won't change until the 49ers start losing, and there's not much time left for that to happen...

Sunday Gameday! Lou's View 12:50 PM

Pinned: A HUGE congratulations to Joe the BFD Tech Guy! His daughter was named a NJ All State Track Team member. There are only 10 spots on the All State Track team. Congratulations to Joe and his family. A proud day for sure!

Good luck today!!

David Wilson starts for the Giants today officially. Great matchup and I wouldn't think twice about starting him...

Roddy White, who I removed from the Saturday starts and sits because I didn't expect him to play looks good to go according to head coach Mike Smith. Just like Dez Bryant, I don't trust White with my FF season on the line. There's a reason they were on the injury reports all week. I think Dez and Roddy are decoys. That's just my opinion of course...

Danny Amendola is a go today and unlike the two guys above, I would absolutley place Amendola in my lineup and not think twice. He's always 10 catches waiting to happen, especially in this matchup...

Kirk Cousins win start for the Redskins and I will be starting the Browns defense where I have them...

Lou's View 12/15 5:49

Oh...and I have no idea what the deal is with the news, but we'll check it out later when Joe gets back from his party...

Just a heads up the starts and sits will be posted later tonight.I've been out all day. No news items to replace, other than Dez Bryant looking like he is a full go....

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Break 12/15 8:00a

The Final Week 15 Injury Report is posted under the In Season - Saturday tab. Check it out for my take on Dez, RGIII and Roddy White.

Lou's View Friday 12/14 8:50 PM- The Final Rankings are posted...

Davone Bess is OUT this weekend, my liking of Brian Hartline goes up even more. I know he's a risk but the matchup and the fact he is the whole passing game have me dreaming big for Brian...

Hey! Look below and you'll read my post from 1PM today about liking Ryan Mathews and BOOM! News comes out that Mathews has a shot to set career touch marks for himself. Lets have it, because I love Mathews at home this weekend...

Danny Amendola will play this week according to a few reports. I think if he's on the field you play him and Sam Bradford becomes more viable too this weekend as a legit low end starter...

Ahmad Bradshaw is out this week, officially. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were out next week too. That second part is my guess only, but a knee and an RB that's very valuable make a lot of sense to take care of. David Wilson will be in the top 10 RBs this week, the Falcons managed to make DeAngelo look like a good FF play last week...

Roddy White is questionable and didn't practice. I won't drop him off the rankings but will tell you this. If Harry Douglas is the replacement he's a decent, not great play IMO...

The Cowboys have reportedly figured out a way to protect Dez Bryant's hand and still keep him capable of catching the ball. Color me skeptical if you'd like, but I think now I will avoid him (which is a complete flip flop from my previous post). This all sounds so strange to me, clearly the guy is hurt...

I just watched Joe Vitt the Saints coach talk about how he would "defend the integrity of the people of the Saints organization until I die". Is he serious? He should have been wearing a political button or something while saying that. It was in response to Greg Williams comments that he tried to end the bounty system but Vitt wouldn't allow it. Not one but TWO commissioners have found all of these people to be involved with it. Vitt was suspended to start the season...the way of the world. Deny, deny, deny...even when busted. Not a good example...

I'm trying to figure out what to do with Cecil Shorts this weekend. If he's playing I want to get him in my lineup, I love the WR position this week. It's deep with excellent matchups, problem is I cannot find anything that says Cecil is a definite go. Check back, he's an important player for FF owners...the Jags did make a WR move, so that could mean Cecil is ready to roll...

A player I am using this week, even if I end up wrong. And he's moving WAY up the rankings....Ryan Mathews. I LOVE the matchup and have you looked at his schedule the last two months? It's been brutal, the last good matchup he had against the Saints he scored 25FF points. I'm rolling with him...

I just don't give Ben Jarvis Green Ellis enough love, I understand...Mike Mayock summed it up perfectly for me last night. If the offensive line blocks for 5 yards, BGE gets those 5 yards. If it blocks for 10 yards he gets 10 and if they have a bad play BGE goes nowhere...He's solid, nothing wrong with that, it's just the reason I never rank him too high...

I have a decision to make this weekend and it is bugging me...I have Jonathan Dwyer against the Cowboys and I like him a lot with Dallas down to their 3rd nose tackle and 3rd middle linebacker who was signed off the street a couple of months ago. I also have Michael Crabtree who I really like this weekend. It's a head to head matchup league, who to play?...So far I'm rolling with Crabtree with the thought being either ahead or behind the 49ers are going to need to keep throwing...

Dez Bryant did look good from what I saw yesterday. I have him in a league and think I will roll with him, knowing the risk of course. I liked what Tony Romo said, which basically amounted to stating that if Dez is on the field then Tony is throwing him the ball...

Lou's View Thursday 12/13 3:40 PM The Strategy Session is posted, just click the Thursday link!

Roddy White is a game time decision. Ugh. As if the Falcons need any more problems on the offensive side of the ball right now. Ryan isn't playing well, they can't run the ball and Julio Jones is a bit up and down. Not good, Jones value increases and I have to believe this helps the value of Jaquizz this week too. I am no Harry Douglas believer so I wouldn't be in a hurry to add him...

Adrian Peterson missed practice with and abdomin injury. That's not good, but I don't know that it means anything so lets wait until Friday to panic...or not...

Cecil Shorts COULD play this week, he's passed his concussion tests. I don't know that he will or wont but I do know I wouldn't use him unless you are totally and completely stuck...

From the files of "you know it's bad when" Jets head coach Rex Ryan expects Braylon Edwards to play on Monday night against the Titans. Not good...

The NY Post believes there is a strong chance Ahmad Bradshaw doesn't even make the trip to ATL for the Giants/Falcons game. As I mentioned yesterday that kind of clarity would be appreciated. David Wilson IMO would top out at about 18 total touches with Kregg Lumpkin and Ryan Torain adding some help. To me the best use of Wilson would be to run and throw to early, build a lead and let Torain kill the clock...

Dez Bryant intends to play this week and I intend to start him where I own him. Maybe...I have one league that is BIG and would love a big score from. If I feel like it, I may risk Brian Hartline over Dez. Crazy I know, but I'm trying to catch a lot of other owners...

Vic Ballard will get the ball a lot against the Texans. If you need a volume guy with a chance to score he would be at least a decent option. Decent...

RGIII now says he feels very good about his chances of playing against the Browns. I never take injury advice from the player, this may be a case of young legs saving the player though. He's young and resilent, if that were Tom Brady his leg would have snapped like a twig...

Lou's View Wednesday 12/12/12 2:28 PM Sorry for the slow start....had to take care of business this morning...The early Ranks and the player comments will be posted tonight. Don't forget, the BFDFANTASYfootball Show at 10PM EST too!

No practice for Jordy Nelson, with the Packers on the verge of sewing up the North against the Bears this weekend I would expect Jordy to sit. There are plenty of weapons they can use against an underwhelming Bears defense to win. Yes, I said underwhelming Bears D', they were just SMOKED by a team that has exactly one player to worry about...

Adrian Peterson says Eric Dickerson should be nervous because AD is chasing Dickerson's single season rushing record. I have won a good number of FF championships since Adrian has been in the league and never have I owned him. I don't own him this season and I can tell you this, no way I would own him next year either. Call me stubborn, but Adrian's use, and the use of Arian Foster will make me a non buyer in 2013...stubborn. I know...

Kevin Kolb on IR, the Cardinals are a QB and an offensive lineman or two from being the perrenial favorite in the NFC West. Problem is finding a QB. There should be a highly motivated Free Agent QB coming out of their division next year. Goes by the name Alex....

Speaking of QB's shaking loose and Arizona, I don't think Kevin Kolb makes his way back there. But he would be a real nice "hold the fort" QB for Andy Reid wherever he may land. If I were Reid and he does hit San Diego as some have suggested I would be looking to bring Kolb in quick...

Ahmad Bradshaw, love the guy and have him on a couple of teams making their way through playoffs now. But I hope he sits this weekend so it's crystal clear David Wilson will be the main man to use. It's an excellent matchup against the Falcons on the turf of the dome. I'd just like clear status for Ahmad, please...

Jay Cutler says he's starting Sunday. So I guess that settles that. I don't trust him to finish, but he's starting...

Wednesday 12/12 Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Break 8:20a

The Early Week 15 Injury Report is posted under the In Season Wednesday tab. Check it out and then go set your winning lineups.

Tuesday 12/11 Lou's View 6:47 PM

Rashard Mendenhall was suspended a game by the Steelers. I like Jonathan Dwyer this week against the Cowboys. Dwyer has a nice game lined up for a TD and 75 yards...

Dez Bryant says the doctors will need to break his leg in order to keep him off the field. Cool. As long as he's playing, he needs to be in your lineup...

RGIII's dad says he is playing. That about does it now doesn't it? I will believe it when I see it...

LeSean McCoy did practice today but word is he won't play Thursday. Interesting. Why risk a practice if there's no chance he plays? They will have 10 days to get him ready since it's a Thursday night game. I'm not so sure he is definitely out. That's ONLY a guess on my part...

Danny Amendola has a much better chance to play this week according to head coach Jeff Fisher. He would be a nice boost to the teams that managed to make the playoffs with him on their roster. Which there are none in my leagues. Sam Bradford would get a little uptick as well, although I would hate to start him...

Bryce Brown will get the ball on Thursday. LeSean McCoy is out this week again. The Thursday night games have been real dogs for most players but this looks like a good spot for Brown to be BIG in...

Where were the Texans last night? What they hell was that offensive gameplan? Did they believe they would slow the game down and keep the Pats off the field? Did they watch any tape? The Patriots at home are bad ass, Houston needed to come out firing the football. Instead it was a grind of Arian Foster. Bad work, and both Houston and Atlanta were exposed as frauds this weekend IMO...

Jay Cutler says he will play this weekend. I wouldn't bet the farm on that, and even if he does start there is always the possibility he doesn't make it through the game. The one league I was set to use him in I won't be. Brandon Marshall is at risk too IMO. Jason Campbell couldn't have been any worse in his last two stints on the field. He doesn't look like he can play anymore...

Monday 12/10 Lou's View 8:28PM The Free Agents will be posted tonight...

They are dropping quick...Dwayne Bowe is now headed to the IR with a rib injury. Not that he or any Chiefs player is so valuable, but there are limited options on the waiver wire...

I commented on Dez Bryant below, we should all take a listen though and hope to hear he can play through the finger injury...

Dez Bryant is done for the season per a report out of Dallas. He's dealing with torn ligaments in his finger and will need surgery. Yesterday he went off the field shaking his hand. Kind of the old "shake it off" way of handling an injury. He came back on the field and played better. Talk about adreniline carrying you. Kevin Ogletree will be the man...but I would say Witten and Miles benefit a ton and even Felix Jones has a little more value...

It was all going so well, then Jeremy Maclin went and had a big day. He was limited in practice because of a groin injury. Take a look at my comments about "hurt guys" below...

Brent Celek is already out for week #15 and Clay Harbor becomes a decent option at TE for you. If you've been going with Marcedes Lewis, Harbor would be a better option IMO...

LeSean McCoy has been medically cleared to start playing again. I have no doubt this will put the brakes on the Bryce Brown bus....

The Redskins say RGIII has a grade 1 sprain of the LCL and he's day to day. Just as a reminder, we are all day to day and these are the Shanahan's. Make plans for another QB to be in your lineup week #15...

Dwayne Bowe ruled out for week #15. I would love to say start the Raiders defense. But I wouldn't start them...like ever...

Should Kirk Cousins be the starter for the Redskins this coming week....the Browns D' looks pretty good again. I know how exciting it all was yesterday with Kirk but those were the bad Ravens on D'. Not the good Browns....say that twice and not shake your head...

I'm officially concerned for Ahmad Bradshaw, the head coach says he's undergoing a bunch of tests on his knee. If it were fine, then he wouldn't be undergoing a bunch of tests. Meniscus? That's the one that worries me, nothing worse. He was able to play yesterday a little so it must have been something that hurt but wouldn't stop him. I'm thinking it's a week off, maybe more if there's a little cleanup that needs to be done. They know they need him for the playoffs...

Cam Cameron, love the guy but he really was sucking as the OC. One issue that I wrote about a week or two ago was this...Joe Flacco isn't the QB they want him to be either. As much as Cam's lack of Ray Rice use lately has been annoying they have been trying to make Flacco something he isn't. He's a big time QB and a clear Super Bowl talent, but he's a Super Bowl talent of Joe Theismann, not Joe Montana...

This, I'm sure will annoy some of you. Sorry in advance. I can't stand Cam Newton and his Superman BS. The guy has won JACK, and Andy Dalton should have been the rookie of the year last season as a playoff QB. Anyway, it just seems like Cam is SO much more interested in doing the Superman routine rather than actually winning. He played great yesterday, the first truly great game of the year IMO for Cam (not for FF but for NFL). I just think the guy's got a long way to go to being the leader, instead of the head cheerleader...

Danario Alexander is the man. I made the comparison on last weeks BFD Show. He's Antonio Bryant of a couple of years ago. Where the hell did he come back from? Incredible...

I heard a comment yesterday, or maybe read it that Ken Whisenhunt could be fired. The Cardinals would be fools. He would be someone else's head coach faster than you can say "you're hired". They haven't gotten the guy an offensive line or QB since Kurt retired and he's still had them competitive for longer than they should have been...less yesterday's nightmare of course...

Jaquizz Rodgers dominated the backfield work for the Falcons yesterday. Good to see but...at the end of the game Michael Turner got his weekly garbage TD. Killer for Jaquizz who is coming on, but not enought to be trusted fully...

As I wrote last week, I would love to watch RGIII play for a long time. There's no way he makes it based on his current use, no way. He's Michael Vick reincarnated but an even better passer. You just cannot let your QB get hit that many times and expect him to be healthy...Kirk Cousins better develop into one heckuva QB quickly, they will need him for years to come if the Shanahan's are going to keep RGIII in harms way...

Surprise player of the day for me? Ben Roethlisberger. He outscored Rodgers, Stafford, Luck and Brees by a mile. Didn't see him doing THAT well for FF. For real football he wasn't too good, but for our purposes he was excellent...

Fred Jackson done for the FF playoffs. Not IMO as good a news as one would have thought for CJ Spiller who is completely underwhelming as the "workhorse" back in the FF playoffs. CJ is easily tackled and in a lot of cases easily chased down. That's a surprise to me...

I'll be ranking Joique Bell higher than LeShoure this week. Enough of this already...Bell gets the equal in carries and the bulk of receptions AND he's used inside the red zone. Sounds and looks like the better option...

Two re birth players this weekend, neither of which killed me but they did probably end my pursuit of the $150K in the FPC. Jeremy Maclin shows up in a big way and Mike the one trick pony Wallace did his one trick twice...

Wondering WTH Greg Jennings was last night. The Packers spent most of the game fighting to catch up (first half) or stay ahead (second half) and Jennings was a no show...

Lou's View Sunday- Game Day! 12:20PM

Michael Turner is a go for the Falcons today so the Jaquizz Rodgers bus will be slowed down just a bit. Still if I were reaching for a RB this week Jaquizz and Joique Bell would be the two guys tops on my list with Daryl Richardson not far behind...

Brandon LaFell is out today, Louis Murphy will start and makes for a very low end decent player if you need one at WR...

Stevie Johnson is expected to play against the Rams today. If he's on the field I think you have to use him unless you're loaded at the WR spot. It's not a great matchup against Cortland Finnegan who is a real PITA to play against...

Brandon Jacobs is upset about his role on the 49ers. 'm not sure what role he feels he should fill. To me Jacobs should be thrilled to be on a winning team again, he's done little to help that effort....again...

Hakeem Nicks is set to play and play plenty against the Saints. With Jabari Greer on Victor Cruz the better matchup for the week goes to Hakeem...

Lou's View Saturday 3:50PM

Spending the day in the gym for basketball...finally got to open the computer. Dustin Keller is out for the Jets this weekend, so Jeff Cumberland is a decent start if you are digging real deap for a TE...

DeMarco Murray is expected to get the football plenty this week against the Bengals and I would look for a very nice game from him. He's really a good player that just needs to stay on the field to be dominant...

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Break 12/8 8:30a

The Final Week 14 Injury Report is posted under the In Season- Saturday link. Check it out and set your winning playoff lineups.

Lou's View 12/7 Friday 3:41 PM The Final Ranks will be posted later tonight..

Sounds like Jonathan Stewart is out this week again, I actually like DeAngelo in this game. The best way to stop the Falcons offense for a bad Carolina defense is to run the ball and keep the Falcons offense, and the Panthers defense off the field...

Mike Wallace is a dip (you know) for commenting on his lack of hands being the fault of Todd Haley's offense. Haley sent the Cardinals of Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to the Super Bowl with this offense. Mike Wallace is a once trick pony and that's that....He's the DeSean Jackson of western PA...

Cecil Shorts and Rashad Jennings are OUT officially. Start the Jets defense and expect a nightmare of a game like the Jets vs. Cardinals last week...The Jets "best" offensive player and best is a stretch...Dustin Keller is questionable...

Stevie Johnson is questionable to face the Rams. I have to believe this helps the value of CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson. Spiller should become a defacto' WR and Fred should get a ton of carries. There's no one for Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw the ball to that's reliable...

I really would make plans to not have Hakeem Nicks available this weekend. The Giants listed him as questionable and that to me means he's very unlikely to go...

Darren McFadden tweaked his ankle last night, I watched him get up and limp off and thought "Man, that is just a hurt guy". Some football players can play forever and never leave the field, McFadden, Willis McGahee and Felix Jones are examples of "hurt guys". They play and they seem to get up after every play with a limp...

We'll, I went back and forth. Consulted a few friends and placed Knowshon in my FPC lineup. This is for the 150K chase and there are about 800 teams after it so every decision is important. Great move, glad I risked him because I did so over Darren Sproles (for now)...I never thought I had to worry about Brandon Meyers giving me nothing! Ugh...could have been a huge start to the chase because there aren't many Knowshon owners in it. Instead it was a decent start THANKS to the guy I was most nervvous about. Go figure...

Again, the Thursday night games are really a wreck. Can't believe how "off" the NFL was on this decision. These are games that may not rival the USFL...Peyton Manning gets into the Red Zone 6 times and comes away with one passing TD? The ugly continues...

Lou's View 12/6 Thursday 4:00 PM The Thursday Strategy Session is now posted, just click the Thursday In Season link...

Big Ben will start this week for the Steelers, I really do like the passing game with him in there and will make some adjustments to the final rankings for sure...

Hakeem Nicks sat out practice today with a sore knee, anytime that happens you've got to pay attention. He's not a healthy guy overall, I'll add Reuben Randle and Ramses Barden to the FA update tonight...

Kenny Britt is OK, erroneous report before that he was late. But here's the thing, we are now told it's erroneous...where there is smoke...

I'm hoping you took the advice to add a second kicker to your roster. Mike Nugent won't kick this weekend for the Bengals due to an injury, they signed Josh Brown. It would SUCK to lose because you only have a single kicker on a roster...

Justin Blackmon is going to be followed by Antonio Cromartie this weekend. That means sit Blackmon because Antonio has been playing like a man possessed since Darelle Revis...

Got some ?'s about Trent Richardson ranking this week. What can I say? I think this is the week you are most glad you selected him in your leagues..

Lou's View 12/5 4:05 PM Don't forget the BFDFANTASYfootball Show tonight at 10PM EST. Jules McLean will again be my special co host....

Mike Tomlin stated Ben Roethlisberger made all the throws needed to start this week. That would be good news for the whole offense against the Chargers...

John Skelton will get the start for the Cardinals this week at QB, I'll have to update that on Friday's final ranks since I had to e-mail Joe the early ranks about an hour ago. I would LOVE to say this helps, but it doesn't. Until the Cardinals can actually block someone along the offensive line the offense is dead to me, and should be to you too...

The Vikings finally admitted what I've been pointing out here for a couple of weeks. Percy Harvin is in bad shape, if you watched the injury you know it was terrible. His leg bent in three directions. It looked like an S when he was landed on...I'm only annoyed with myself for not getting Jarius Wright on my rosters before now, he's valuable even with Ponder stinking things up...

I would prepare to be without Cecil Shorts this weekend, which sucks because he's been such a find. He isn't practicing yet, you could call Jordan Shipley a sleeper. I chose not to bother, I think this is another messy game with the Jets. Much like the Cardinals vs. NY in week #13...

The Packers re signed Ryan Grant. That's not good, I thought early in the year when the Redskins signed him there may be some chance he could steal the starting job. Didn't happen, because clearly there isn't much left in the tank. As RBs go he's a good blocker...

Montell Owens is a pretty good looking RB if you need one, I just wouldn't go get him. I don't trust the 4th RB to run behind that line as more than a good option at best. The Jets D' is not going to get run over either by Owens. I'm hoping we see MJD weeks #15 and #16 for the FF playoffs...

James Starks possibly done for the year. Come hell or high water Alex Green is going to have some value damnit! (I'm joking, the guy is falling into the starting job). John Kuhn would be my choice, he's been the best RB there for two years, when Cedric wasn't running for them. They really blew it by not going after a RB when the trade deadline was coming. They'll pay in the playoffs...again...

Mark Sanchez will start for the Jets week #14. If you are Rex Ryan and you know you'll be back for 2014 then this was the only move you can make, Sanchez is going to be back next year too...

Chris Kuhlmann's Injury Break 8:15a 12/5

The Early Week 14 Injury Report is posted under the In Season Wednesday tab...make sure to check it out and get the jump on your playoffs.

Lou's View Tuesday 12/4 3:51 PM The Updated Free Agents and the Top 150 will be posted tonight...

Julian Edelman is done for the year with a broken foot. Damn, I broke the bank to get him in one league and only had one good week from him. Cut him loose and go get Mike Thomas off the waiver wire, he's being added to tonight's update...

If Terrell Suggs is done for the season, the Ravens D' goes from not good to down right bad. One player, like Suggs can make that big a difference. As good as Ngata is, he's a interior D-lineman and that won't make the whole D' better...

There aren't a lot of attractive Free Agents available as you saw by yesterday's list. One thing you may want to consider is some handcuff players to your starters, since the WW is so thin the best players for your roster may just be the backups to your players. I've grabbed a few, even at the WR. As an example where I own Hakeem Nicks I've picked Reuben Randle up to hang onto...

Jonathan Dwyer is going to get the start again for the Steelers. SD is again a tougher defense to run on, still they are not world beaters so I like the matchup at home with SD traveling across country...they should be pretty weak opponents in that one...

Ben Roethlisberger is expected to return this week per one report. I think this is a big boost for Heath Miller, as Ben gets back into the groove he will lean on Miller for check down passes. Jonathan Dwyer could use the help too...

Oh what could have been...Pierre Garcon and RGIII are on my main event FFPC team that is rocking...the toilet bowl. A free main event team goes to the winner and after finishing at the top last week, I'm currently in second and will bemoan the loss of Garcon for the year. I'll get over it...maybe...

Seriously, RGIII is the real deal. He won't make it though and Jon Gruden pointed it out about 100 times last night. Your QB can't get hit that much and survive. Mike Vick proved it, Donovan McNabb proved it (he didn't get hurt, just worn out) and RGIII will prove it. I want to watch the guy, I hope they change the offense to protect him more next year...

I have to admit that as much as I have liked Hakeem Nicks over the years and he made me look good with the breakout call a couple of years back...he is not the same WR. Too many injuries have him looking like a fast TE on the outside rather than the speedy big play WR he started off as just a few years ago...Reuben Randle is a nice looking Dynasty guy to me...

I think it's safe to drop Logan Paulson, I liked the guy and the opportunities but he's not very good at this point and that was obvious last night....

Lou's View Monday 12/3 3:46 PM The Free Agents will be posted tonight.

I just did a quick check of the Texans schedule and you know what? As a Arian Foster owner you need to be rooting your tail off for a Patriots win this weekend. The Texans already smoked the Ravens so basically they have a 3 game lead on them. This week the Texans travel to New England and Foster owners need a good game, with a Patriots win.  That keeps them one game behind Houston with three to go and would give them the head to head tie breaker. So Arian, Andre and Schaub owners. Get your pom poms out for Tom Brady and company...

I've had a couple of questions today about Stephen Gostkowski who I mentioned the last few weeks you need to be cautious about. I'm not going to predict he's getting cut, and didn't predict that. What I did point out is he is missing kicks regularly and did again yesterday. To me the Pats would at some point have to consider other options if they think it's possible he can cost them a playoff game. So plan your roster heading into the playoffs to own two kickers if you can't pick one up AND your main guy is Gostkowski...

Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers have time and again held up my belief that early QB drafting is a mistake, and here's one more reason why....Ryan Broyles done for the year with another ACL injury. It kills the QB value and it's happened to both guys. They each have had their moments putting up some big games, neither has been as consistently dominant as Andrew Luck...Luck is 3rd in points per game, just ahead of Rodgers with a 10 round difference in price tag...Back to Broyles, head coach Jim Schwartz says Titus Young is not an option to replace him...

The Steelers D' just got a WHOLE lot easier to deal with. Ike Taylor will be back week #17 at best. The Steelers are a shaky playoff contender, so the season may be done for Taylor...

Looks like I got the answer to my question from earlier today. Nick Foles is the Eagles starting QB the rest of the way. I wonder if this saves Andy Reid's job one more time? To me he and the offensive staff he has in place would be the right coaches to bring this kid along. The only better QB coach in the league is Mike McCarthy...

Larry Fitzgerald says he has to laugh in order to not cry. You have got to love the guy for that line alone. This is not the best WR in the game, this is possible the best player in the game of football and he's wasted on the Cardinals. It begs the question of WTH where they doing in AZ when Kurt Warner was there NOT bringing along a young guy? I admit, I liked John Skelton this season but he's looked terribly overmatched when he's had chances. Kevin Kolb is decent but it's time to draft a guy VERY high and get him on the field. If not, break the bank when Alex Smith is cut loose from SF and sign him to get Larry the damn ball...

Rex Ryan, my god is this hysterical to watch. He won't name a starter for next week. Totally falls under the category of "who cares"? Outside Vegas, no one...

Aaron Hernandez missed two TDs yesterday, that would have helped me avoid a little pain in one of the RT sports leagues below...

Remember last week I told you I ran into Mohamed Sanu and Brandon LaFell and lost by 3 points? They are both done for the season now, sometimes it makes you wonder where the snakebite is on your A#$...I will miss the playoffs because of that loss last week, in a league that pays $50K to the winner...yea, it does suck. But I won't complain, I'll come back again next year and see the positives, I scored a lot and it didn't work out. (I wrote that whole thing not crying, but sharing!)...My team is 40 points out of the lead for most total points scored in the entire league, yet I'll miss the playoffs (and I have Cruz going tonight)...At least I should be the favorite in the consolation bracket....

Let me share some more, because I like to make you feel good after my tough losses too. In my 3 RT Sports league, I averaged a score of about 120 a week and will again this week, all 3 leagues I am in I made the championship and only 16 teams move on to win 10K(League Champs, so I could have had 3 teams of 16 fighting for 10K). I'll likely lose all three and the bad ass I ran into this week is none other than Jason Hanson...a KICKER! His 20 points will put all my opponents up about 10-15 on me...that doesn't feel too good...

Bryce Brown is really, really good. But that's two fumbles in two games and that's a rookie for you. I'm most impressed with and interested in what the Eagles will do once Mike Vick is ready. Nick Foles looked very good against a very good defensive backfield...

The Ravens just aren't that good, and Charlie Batch proved it. The Steelers aren't very good either. The Bengals with just a little more consistent play from their D' are the best team in that division and the Browns are a year away from being a real problem for all of them. At some point Cleveland with 10000 1st round picks on the roster ought to make a difference...

This just in. Andrew Luck is pretty damn good, and he's going to and should win the rookie of the year. Just like Andy Dalton who led the Bengals to the playoffs last year should have won the rookie of the year. Inexplicably it went to Cam Newton who was all flash and no wins, it'll be interesting to see how that goes this year. I could see RGIII sharing it with Luck, because at least RGIII wins. Still, Andrew has his team poised for the playoffs...

I love Cecil Shorts! Made me look good this year for sure (Since Randy Moss didn't)...Shorts was banged up and could miss next weeks game which sucks, Jordan Shipley may actually have some value with Chad Henne doing his best Kurt Warner impersonation...

Lou's View Sunday 12:51 PM Game Day!

Good Luck Today!

Miles Austin will try to play for the Cowboys. In my opinion he is at best a decoy. Witten and Bryant should dominate the targets; leave Austin on the bench.

Kenny Britt is expected to see additional targets today. He is a good play with Jonathon Joseph out.

Donald Jones is out for the Bills. Stevie Johnson will see all the targets at wide reciever.

Andre Roberts is inactive, I had no idea this was even a possibility. I get Tweets and e-mails all over the place and didn't catch Roberts as a potential inactive...

Danny Amendola is inactive, I would use Chris Givens today. He gets the better matchup at corner...

It sounds like Darren McFadden now WON'T play. Marcel Reese should stay in lineups. Also, the weather in Oakland is reportedly not as bad as feared so the passing games should be ok...

DeMarco Murray is going to play tonight but...it doesn't sound like he's a full go. I don't think you can use Murray or Felix Jones based on this news. Unless you own both and can wait until the last minute to start one of them...

Sidney Rice is going to play but I wouldn't use him or Golden Tate this week. It's a bad matchup...

Lou's View Saturday 12/1 1:27PM The Final Injury Report is Posted, just click the Saturday link.

The Panthers reportedly have been told to travel to KC for the game tomorrow. I would stay close to the news if you have someone going in that game, it certainly would make sense for the NFL to cancel the game if reports of head coach Romeo Crennel being present when Javon Belcher shot himself. God Bless all of the people in this terrible situation...

Still in Houston so ill have the starts and sits posted later tonight. Traveling back this afternoon. I do like that the Ravens are looking to include Bernard Pierce more as the season moves on. Ray Rice needs some help, they are leaning on him a ton...

Invictus Meditations 8/26/11
Michael Bronte for BFDFANTASYfootball.com

The horizon becomes more clear every day, week and pre-season game. What is past is prologue..
How do we merge the " not for long " NFL win now mentality with patience is a virtue? Especially for Dynasty purposes walking the tightrope between competing this year and having a team to actually earn the definition of Dynasty. The Patriots may not have won it all lately but they are a favorite every year. Look at the organizations that are consistent in being competitive. NYG, Packers, Steelers, Colts. Start looking for a common thread of what makes them successful. Most of them build solely through the draft, choosing players that "buy in" to what the organization's philosophy may be. Except for the Patriots they rarely bring in FA's. The Pat's will also cut bait at the first odor of trouble.  No matter how low a price they paid. On the other hand we have the Bengals, the anti Patriot way, though they did seem to try a bit harder this draft.

I'm not going to advocate completely ignoring certain talented players from your Dynasty but traits must be addressed. I hope at least some of you jumped ship on CJ2 and Jonathan Stewart when I suggested. The trouble signs were there in both cases albeit different circumstances. Bud Adams, Titans owner isn't exactly known as a spend thrift and he's a well known ego maniac. Couple that with an under paid frustrated star, a team with growing pains ahead, and yikes. CJ deserves to be paid but the club cannot blink now. Gonna be ugly for them and you if you own him.  Not just for this season but between Britt's hi-jinks and a raw rook QB to break in, CJ's already shown you his vintage.
J. Stew is again being troubled by an Achilles that has hindered him since freshman year in college. Don't say you're surprised and now have to wonder what his worth is for your team, and why the Panthers paid Dwill.

Point of this is to learn from what we see works more often then not. How the successful players and clubs go about what does or does not. Look at Danny Amendola. Undersized, under talented, bounced from practice squads to earn a starting spot.  Just one or two of the reasons for this is most of the more "talented" WR's in St. Louis can't stay out of the trainer's rehab room. There are trends and probabilities that become recognizable the more we do this. Why should Donny Avery magically stay healthy, or MSW suddenly become reliable? Were you really surprised that Jahvid Best got concussed on his first carry this week? I figured maybe his fifth touch but it happened sooner.

Even the experts and highly paid NFL GM's make horrific blunders but I'm aiming to be better then the rest of my league and so should you. Ignorance isn't bliss. But knowledge is power. Go forth and prosper...

10 Yard Standard

1) Two players I was happy to watch in some game action this week and they didn't look to shabby. Stefon Johnson, RB for the Titans who two years ago almost died in a freak weight training accident when the barbell slipped on his throat. He battled back and was taken late last season by the Titans and promptly broke his ankle badly.
Mark Herzlich , LB playing for the NYG who had a great career going in BC, former ACC Defensive player of the year, and was diagnosed with Bone Cancer. Talk about two guys with will. Hope they can stick.

2) It seems Tim Tebow finds his way here every Standard. It's amazing the backlash this guy is having unleashed upon him by the same media and pundits that canonized him a month ago. He was never as great as made out to be but certainly not deserving of the current wrath. Suddenly no one will admit to thinking he has the goods to be a starter. I also believe part of it is because he's actually a good kid and well liked. He should go get inked up and "make it rain" with some "shorties" in a strip club and knock out a bouncer.  Or fire off a handgun before getting a DUI.

3) I'm sorry but EVERY time I see Suzy Kolber on camera I still think of the immortal interview with Joe Willie Namath when he asked for a kiss.

4)  I have to call out the Colts organization again. I lost some respect for them when they laid down for the Jets and blew the opportunity at immortality in the name of "rest" two years ago. Now you left yourselves staring at opening day with the possibility of Curtis Painter or Kerry Collins. Go have a chat with the Patriots. Their 3rd string is a better option.

5)  While I'm on a roll, WTF are the Bears thinking with Roy Williams? Is it a Martz spell? Did they really believe he would actually show you something better then who he is? It's not like there were not WR options this season. Mean while they are low balling Forte...well done.

6)  So Tony Romo got married. Will this be the year it all comes together for him or will we prefer his game when he was dating fading bimbo pop stars. Was kind of fun seeing which jersey color they would wear to the games; I don't recall Giselle ever wearing a Brady jersey.

7)  I want to see Clinton Portis do some on the field interviews like Tony Siragusa does. Even not in costume would be great entertainment.

8)  My pet peeve regarding the “otherworld” postings of irresponsible blurbs from hack beat writers is reaching scorching proportions. Today I read Ryan Grant was possibly going to be cut. JUST STOP THE MADNESS PLEASE?! Let the news HAPPEN before posting it AS NEWS. Later in the day it was correctly reported (and included in the BFD News update) that grant took a pay cut and is now guaranteed his salary.

9)  If I read the term "Bell Cow" again I swear I'm going vegan. Find another term that actually means something. Might not hurt to use a bit of imagination. "Lead Back" " Top Dog"  "Every Down Back".  Or maybe just the simple truth of  STARTER . You get the idea.

10)  Pete Carroll is spending time on elaborate pranks involving police showing up to meetings regarding player's huge hotel bills.. Some camp humor or not ready for NFL coaching.? Wonder what Bill Belichick and Mike Tomlin did this week?

The Football Stuff

From the “You know you’re in trouble when” department you start kickin the tires on some veteran QBs and you come away with the options of Daunte Culpepper and Josh McKown. That’s a problem and the 49ers face it right now…

From the “You know you’re in trouble when part deux” department you are looking at your starting WRs and they include a rookie, a 2nd year WR with a grand total of 25 receptions and a 3rd year player with career catches totaling 35. Wouldn’t it be nice to see what Jason Campbell could do with some serious WR weapons?

Terrell Pryor is the problem, not the NCAA. I’m so sick of those that do wrong coming back and explaining how what they did isn’t that bad. And the evil empire is after them, and only them…BS, he knew what he was doing and he shouldn’t have been eligible for the supplemental draft. Now word is his attorney will appeal the 5 game suspension immediately upon Pryor getting selected in the supplemental draft. That’s perfect, own up immediately to doing wrong…Question for you, did you have an “attorney” when you were 20’ish years old? I know I didn’t, as a matter of fact the only people that did at that age were those doing something wrong…

Jonathan Baldwin MIA from the Chiefs camp. I guess he and Todd Haley are not hitting it off all that great? Haley is notorious for being tough on WRs, and when he is and when they respond you end up with guys like Keyshawn Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Dwayne Bowe having their best seasons ever…Ends up Johnny Baldwin got his a#@ kicked by Thomas Jones...

Just a heads up, if Eli Manning isn’t a top 5 QB. He’s damn close, Aaron Rodgers took years to get the starters gig; Eli didn’t. Drew Brees had to switch teams before he became one of the best in the business, Eli didn’t. Peyton Manning has been unreal, but given a game right now I don’t know that I’d pick the older Manning over the younger. And Tom terrific? He lost to Eli Manning in the Super Bowl, and Eli has accomplished one thing Tom hasn’t. He lead his team downfield for a TD when they needed the win. Adam Viniateri became a legendary kicker in the SB for a reason…I’m just saying…

The Lions are everyone’s love story this season. I like them too but the Packers and Bears will have a few things to say about Detroit making real noise this year. Detroit is relying on a QB that hasn’t made it through a season, a 2nd year RB that hasn’t made it through a season and a stud WR that hasn’t made it through a season. Oh yea, and a TE that hasn’t made it through every season without missing time. Add in a defense that has been put together in Free Agency at the LB position and you have yourself a receipe for a nice 8-8 season…

I just love how Colt McCoy is getting so much love now, look back at the early season rankings and you’ll see we had him ranked as a #2 QB then. We don’t mess around here and won’t stick guys in slots because “he’s Colt McCoy”. I’m looking for reasons guys can succeed and Colt has the reasons…

The Giants will win the NFC East because they have the best coach in the division. The Cowboys will finish second…sorry Eagles fans…

Fantasy Football Stuff

Mike Tolbert bumps up a round and Ryan Mathews moves down a round. Making Tolbert too expensive and Mathews valued about right…

The Jets passing game should be very good, but they will be relying on a 37 year old WR and a WR that hasn’t played in 3 years. Tell me why again they didn’t want Edwards back in NY?...

Brandon Marshall has me scared for FF purposes, he did have better numbers last season than you think but man the whole Dolphins situation worries me. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Bills finally climb from the basement of the AFC East with Steve Johnson and CJ Spiller leading the FF way…

Julio Jones is really creating some FF buzz right now, he’s also being elevated up drafts and looked at as a sure fire FF starter where people are selecting him…

Rashard Mendenhall with a couple of catches last night, that was nice to see for BFD subscribers…

The Personal Stuff

I was driving along, listening to the radio and taking in some football talk on Sirius. As I’m listening my 12 year old is sitting with me and there’s a Steelers guy doing an interview. Nothing special said other than the broadcaster thanking the Steelers rep for coming on and talking some football.
Then my 12 year old asks me a great question, and it really was great….she asks:
“Dad, what’s a Steeler”?
Whoa…that hit me like a ton of lead (sic) and got me really thinking on so many levels.
I was able to have a long and very nice discussion with her about just what a Steeler is and how her grandfather (my dad) was a Steel hauler truck driver through a union and what a union is and was and just what was so important to the country about Steelers and the steel business and how it’s changed so much and a city like Pittsburgh was a steel Mecca of the steel industry. (Sorry, long run on sentence but it really was a great conversation) and it goes on….
We got to talking about political correctness (and how it annoys me) but as it apply to sports and football. How it’s part of the naming of teams and the history of the country.
Think about it, the Steelers, the Cowboys (would be offensive today because they carried guns), Chiefs (Even though they are in charge, it still has to offend someone), Redskins (had to fight to keep the name. Ridiculous), Super Chargers (A reference to the military really? Or a horses? ), Bills (one of two teams named for a person, Buffalo Bill who gasp! carried a gun…. and so many others including my girls favorite team…the Packers. Nothing politically correct about the names and a piece of American history to discuss almost every night…

Invictus Meditations & 10 Yard Standard
August 12 2011

I won't be offering a subliminal message or theme this week, as I'm just relieved and content to have Football reborn in a better pre--season version than I hoped for.
A summer night in August watching the first games of the season in what is now the birthing of the golden age of NFL Fantasy Football.

Like having my ban lifted from the Playboy Mansion by Hef himself after letting the monkeys loose from the mini- zoo, I must not allow sensory overload to distort my judgement. How enticing some of the starters and backups appear to my turf starved cravings.
I'm almost tempted to forcibly change the channel to "Lifetime" or look for a "Glee" rerun. It would be a first run for me BTW, I've never seen a moment of it believe it or not. No... I'm mesmerized by the flick of Vick's wrist, the fleet feet of Moreno and the machine that is the Patriots. I'm also wondering what the hell Lou was thinking with his comeback player pick of (sorry, edited for subscribers)..then again compared to the Rooks running with the first team..mmm.

It almost doesn't seem the financial sky has continued to fall as I am proud of one of the few things that is truly growing in every scope that we can still call our own. One of the remaining shreds of unadulterated American masculinity, un-neutered and unapologetic in its reach and historic lineage, NFL Network coverage 24 hours a day.
Gold jackets, Bronze Doo-ragged Busts and tears rolling down the faces of aging Gods. The dream grows larger still as it's just a wisp away from my outstretched fingers. I am settling into the Grotto with my feet in the water, glass in hand as Hef/Goodell just popped the champagne.

Note from Lou: As you can read, Michael was having a massage and a mimosa while writing this meditation…whew…lets get to blocking, tackling and TDs…but he is 100% correct, forget all you see in the pre season. Look for: RB Speed, WR hands and offensive line blocking….

Now back to this regularly scheduled blog post…
10 Yard Standard

1)  Aside from developing a superhuman work ethic paired with fantastic genetics, Shannon Sharpe may have been poor in the cash department but rich in brotherly love. Great to see more of the details of the Sharpe brother's biography.

2) I'm now frustrated and disappointed watching "Entourage" wind down. Not because it's in the final season but I see how good it could've been all these years. Much more realistic and grounded now instead of the cartoon we have been passing the time with for eight seasons.

3) Tim Tebow has been hit. Can he get up now as this appears to be the first time in his life he's not executing a first round KO…

4)  Another few miles of tracks have been laid down that is the train wreck happening in Titans land. No Contract in sight for CJ. Don’t make me use the “B’ word….(you know the one as it applies to fantasy football)…

5) I'm enjoying the trials of Tiger Woods infinitely more then I ever did during his heyday as the top golfer. Reap it baby. Every caddie has his day or at least yours.

6) Interesting Rich Eisen Podcast with Jackie Slater and Jack Youngblood. Hall of Famers for you young dudes, still not too willing to give Cutler the benefit of the doubt from his knee injury during the NFC Championship game. MJD isn't either.

7) I'm curious as to how many hot women are really home watching football with the guys wearing jersey's ala NFL network commercials. Looks to be more common than I thought…

8) If Lou goes 3 for 3 in his Breakout , Bust, and Comeback players he will be treating himself to a Rex Ryan duplicate Tat.  (Lou says he’s not into feet other than RBs)…

9) When the hell are grown men going to stop embarrassing themselves and risking not only reputation but life and limb wrestling for baseballs in the stands? Never seizes to amaze me…

10) Recycled quote of the week: "We're talking 'bout practice...not a game. Practice"

Lou’s Blog #4

8/4/11

Lou Tranquilli BFDFFANTASYfootball.com

Since I had a number of compliments on the format of the last blog, which included football, fantasy football and personal stuff I’ll hang with that again this week…

The Football Stuff:

Seattle has hand one heckuva good off season, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the record for this 7-9 division champ and two win playoff teams looks like at the end of 2011. Pete Carroll is a good coach, and I think they have something in the way of a QB with Tarvaris Jackson. As a matter of fact, they should try and get Joe Webb off the Vikings roster while they are at it and use him as the backup…

The Eagles have out together a fantasy football team, but have they really? Is the offensive line good enough to be GOOD ENOUGH in the playoffs? As great as Mike Vick was last season he and the rest of the Eagles lost a home playoff game to the Packers. That’s not good, and I don’t think Philly has done enough to improve the team in all areas. Unless Nnamdi can play guard really well, or even tackle at times this team will struggle to run the football consistently. I am well aware of Andy Reid’s preference for throwing, don’t forget I write the coaching tree every year…but even with that knowledge at some point you have got to run the football. That point is the playoffs, if you can’t do it. You lose.
I do BTW think the Philly fans are going to be in a fit after the season. Why? Because they will find out the “problem” wasn’t Donovan McNabb all these years…

If you all recall I named the Patriots WRs last season the “Shrimp Scampi” because after trading Randy Moss they had a bunch of little WR’s running around the field that looked a lot like the group back when Tom Terrific won his first Super Bowl. That moniker is gone now that they added Chad Ochocinco, which is too bad; it was a good name for a WR group…I also think the Pats learned a very valuable lesson. They needed Randy Moss last year, he was at least a threat on the outside, and no one else was. Chad is set for a prime time comeback…

I have to comment on my last blog regarding Tim Tebow. I really think he is the future of the NFL QB position, it just sucks for him that John Fox and his mind numbing offense will be in Denver for the next whatever number of years. Tebow needs a coach that can think outside the box, create an offensive system around him and use what talent is there to his benefit. Tim Tebow needs Jerry Glanville… (Josh McDaniels won’t do, he will have Sam Bradford)…

Shocked the Raiders let Zach Miller get away to the Seahawks. There needed to be some better planning in Oakland, I know how cap strapped they are at the moment but you cannot let a center piece of the offense go and expect things to be good. Hue Jackson welcome to the world of working for Al Davis. Anyone else remember the very public snubbing Al go t on his HC job a while back? The snubbing that led to the disaster of  Art Shell’s second HC stint in Oakland. Its lack of planning moves like letting Miller go that make the HC position in Oakland the keeper of the black hole…

Randy Moss retired because (reportedly) he didn’t get what he wanted. A long term contract. I’ll write it again, Randy Moss retired because he didn’t get what he wanted…
Doesn’t that just sum up what we have read/heard so many times?...

Fantasy Football Stuff:

I have a good one for you on fantasy football. As much as many of you know I consider the time spent on formulating stats projections to be the biggest single waste of time FF players’ focus on (and those of you that didn’t know; now you do. Go read the AVT)…the second biggest waste of time?
PPR Rankings vs. Standard Scoring Rankings.
Yup, you heard me…or read me right. There is almost NO difference in the final landing spot of players from one format to the other. I went over the last three seasons and here’s a good example. In 2010 there was ONE player who was a Top 12 RB in Standard and NOT a Top 12 RB in PPR scoring. Michael Turner, who was 9th in STD scoring, was 14th in PPR. Not an earth shattering drop. On the flip side of that is Ahmad Bradshaw who finished 10th in PPR leagues and a terribly far drop (sic) of 13th in STD scoring formats.
One more for you…In the Top 36 RBs last season in PPR formats ONE player didn’t also finish in the Top 36 STD scoring format Cadillac Williams who finished 39th in STD scoring…waste of time (and I have 2009 and 2008 for this as well, and they are a near perfect match for the above examples).
I’ll give you the ultimate PPR vs. STD player. Wes Welker. In 2009 he finished the #4 WR in PPR leagues and #13 in STD scoring formats. Here’s the question: Assuming he wasn;t injured in the playoffs that season, would you have selected Wes Welker as the #4 WR in 2010? Yea, I didn’t think so.
I’m not saying there isn’t a difference, that would be silly, I’m saying there isn’t enough of a difference to drive yourself NUTS trying to work that out. Use the cheat sheets we have (available in Excel to move players around) and adjust them slightly. Get to know the players and the systems and you will be spending your time wisely.
Bottom line is the best FOOTBALL PLAYERS are also the best FANTASY PLAYERS regardless of format…

Adrian Peterson will touch the ball a TON in 2011. He can be on your teams, because he won’t be on mine. The Vikings are my leader in the club house for Andrew Luck trading rights. Fighting tooth and nail in the suck department is the proud Washington Redskins franchise with 1000 year old defensive players and Rex Grossman at WB, the only reason I don’t think they “win the right for Luck” is Mike Shanahan is a damn freaking good coach. A sleeper in the suck for Luck… the 49ers….

I think people are way under estimating MJD and what he can do, clearly the guy is a risk because of the knee but this is the best offensive player on the Jaguars roster. He reminds me of Tiki Barber back in the day when people just kept under estimating him and left him for useless. I don’t have MJD ranked really high admittedly (you should subscribe and see where!) but I DO still like the guy. Especially as a #2 RB for your FF team…

I’ll be picking up Cadillac Williams now that he’s part of the Rams. Josh McDaniels can’t help himself; he will overuse two RBs instead of just loading S-Jax up with 400 touches. I said before this is a HC that drafted Knowshon Moreno then RBBC’d the guy with Correll Buckhalter…

The Personal Stuff:

Once summer comes I try and go to the beach as much as I can to work the tan over. I don’t go for the spray on deal…
Now last time I wrote about going to Disney and the joy of the crowd and the jazzy experience. This time I have a good story about being forced onto a ride with my OLDEST son, not the youngest guy who wanted nothing to do with this contraption that rises you 100 feet off the ground then drops you from a little tiny cord straight down until you get jerked to a horizontal position and start swinging 65’ or so from one side to the other.
All I can say is I didn’t leave that ride with as much “cargo” as I arrived with….you figure that out…

Talk to you next time.
